Racking and Masking Considerations

In order for proper anodizing to occur, solid clean connections between the racks and your parts must be achieved. This means that rack marks will probably be visible to some extent. If you have critical exposed surfaces or surfaces that CANNOT have marks due to dimensions or mating parts, then please let us know.

We always make an attempt to conceal marks caused by racking whether for color, clear, or hardcoating. These marks may not even be visible if done in clear, nevertheless, the parts must still be held securely.

On long extrusions, we try to rack parts within the last 3/4 to 1 inch on each end. That leaves the entire center section untouched. This is the process we use for extrusions up to 39 feet long.

Small parts ( less than 2 inches overall length ) are usually held on spring loaded finger racks. Whenever possible, we will use the machined ID of holes to rack parts.

Masking identifiable areas on parts can allow you to leave certain areas on your parts completely unprocessed. This is especially advantageous for parts that require further machining after chemical processing. We need a marked drawing or sketch if you require masking. You can also simply mark those areas on a sample part with a magic marker.
